
Let’s learn some idioms!
- He’s driving me batty. – He annoys or frustrates me to the point of exasperation.
- Devil-may-care attitude – Happy-go-lucky, casual, careless, easy-going
- He has a skeleton in his closet/cupboard. – There is a discreditable or embarrassing fact that he wishes to keep secret.
- You weird me out. – You made me feel awkward, uneasy, or unusual.
- I think I smell a rat. – I suspect something, doubt someone, distrust someone, mistrust someone.
- Jamie is drop dead gorgeous. – Jamie is really good looking.
- This guy scared the pants off me. – He frightened me a lot.
- She stopped dead in her track. – She stopped suddenly.
- I’m chilled to the bone. – I am extremely / bitterly cold.
- She is a night owl. – She is a person who prefers to be awake and active at night.
- It’s the witching hour. – the time when witches are said to appear, usually twelve o’clock at night.

- I was shaking in my boots. – I was very afraid or frightened or nervous.
- This company operates with skeleton staff. – It has the minimum number of employees needed to operate. (during a vacation, weekend or other period when people do not normally work, or full staffing is not necessary.)
- You must be dead on your feet. – You must be extremely tired.
- a ghost town. – a once-flourishing town wholly or nearly deserted usually as a result of the exhaustion of some natural resource.
- She was scared stiff of flying. – She was very afraid of flying.
- He and his brother are at daggers drawn. – If two people or groups are at daggers drawn, they are having a serious disagreement and are very angry with each other.
- She’s a scaredy cat. – A person who is easily frightened or needlessly afraid.
- He is on a witch hunt. – A witch-hunt is an attempt to find and punish a particular group of people who are being blamed for something, often simply because of their opinions and not because they have actually done anything wrong.
- A devil of a job. – f you say that you had the devil’s own job to do something or that you had a devil of a job doing something, you are emphasizing that it was difficult to do it.
